VIVID SYDNEY 2013

Our evening started with a lovely meal at the Jet Cafe in the Queen Victoria Building before walking down towards the wharf area to view the Vivid Sydney light displays.
As we neared a lane - Angel Way.   I was intrigued by what looked like bird cages hanging at the end of the alley.  Yes they were cages, no birds, and a cute restaurant underneath.
We turned left into Ash Lane and came across a lovely restaurant, which we promptly declared would be our next eating out experience - Felix Bistro.  At the end of Ash Lane, to our left, and up lovely wide black staircase is the famous nightclub - The Ivy.
With the infamous record of being the most violent venue in Australia.

Our first light installation.
Traffic cones attached with plastic ties - glowing with the occasional puff of smoke.
Julia's expression and my subject placement make this photo a keeper.

Light tunnel, Percy right.

Poor photo, but Julia loved these flowers, they would shake and make a rustling sound.

The Museum of Modern Art
This was a favourite display this year. The light show went for many minutes with a variety of patterns, designs, and actions all set to music.  Lovely.

Quite different displays on the Opera House.
These are referencing Pin Ball Machines.

This light wall was controlled by children on see-saws (teeter totters).
One light installation was controlled by hitting a large drum. I couldn't resist. Julia promptly told me to get off !  It was fun though.  I thanked the children standing in line waiting for their turn -  tee hee.

More Opera House shots.
We picked our night carefully.  Lovely clear skies and not cold.

We were searching for cake and coffee.  I was quite intrigued with this woman.
Her attention to detail was amazing.

Off To The Ball...

Julia off to the Arts and Drama Societies Blitz Ball held at Sydney Uni.
Hence the Victory rolls in her hair.

I must say I'm quite pleased at the result.
2 1/2 hours to straighten Julia's hair.
Then lots of hairspray, lots of hairspray and pins in this creation.
How long is your hair, Julia, when it is straight, lucky gal!

Lily Pond - Boyne Island, Queensland.

As we drove from Gladstone Airport to Tim's I noticed a number of lily ponds,
This one with pink flowers is walking distance to Tim's.  Other ponds had blue flowers, quite striking!
Peter tells me these lilies were not there on his last visit. They grow quite quickly, are tall and lush.  The flower heads are 8 -10" in diameter, quite large with a huge seed pod, just visible in middle photo.

This is the life!

I fell in love with Tim's outdoor room.
How can I get one of these?

View from Tim's side fence, looking towards the back fence and shade house.
Pots of tomatoes, herbs and a wonderful 'nelly kelly' passion fruit on the fence outside the kitchen window is to be envied.

Since returning home to Sydney, I've walked around my house thinking how can I have an outdoor room similar to Tim's.  I know I can't really, the side deck would be ideal as would the paved area outside the kitchen would work well, but ho hum I don't think I can sell the idea to others.
Never say never!

Walking with Peter around Boyne Island

The view just down the road from Tim's home.
The Boyne River
Trees washed down river after the cyclone a couple of months before have lodged themselves across the river on the mad flats.

A timely reminder, we are in Far North Queensland after all.
Watch out for Crocs.

Well they look like black Ibis.  We have white Ibis in Sydney, though around the next bend we came across white Ibis... still not sure.

*Note to self:  we wandered through the mangrove swamp and came across a small'ish muddy pool.  In it was a 12" long fat, soft looking fish, many tiddlers, tadpoles,
30+ tiger striped, orange and black fish about 1" in size, a crab, and Peter tells me on one of his
walks he came across an ocean turtle there. So much wildlife.

**Note to self:  if I walk 2 hours a day, will I look as great as big brother Pete when I'm 70?

Visiting Tim - Boyne Island, Queensland

Pete settling himself in Tim's amazing outdoor room.

Pete in a common 'Pete pose', book in hand, & in mid sentence.
Just being together sharing memories, some true some not...
So loved this time together.

Tim, cuppa in hand, discussing the issues of the day.

Elizabeth, Ian and Girls

I took a photo of photos I found on display at brother Tim's while visiting with him.
Elizabeth and Ian and their 3 beautiful girls,
Josie, Alexus & Adelaide

What a bundle of curly, giggly, sweet, huggable joy.

Loris tells me Josie will be 11 this Sunday (May 5th)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SWEET JOSIE
love from us all.  xxxx
